  I've actually had gas buddy installed for quite awhile. But then gas prices when down. Well, now they are on the rise again and I saw that Gas Buddy made some peoples top 10.

OK, this app is not for everyone but it came in really handy for me.  Like many other people, I can not sleep without some sort of white noise in the background.  

Another app for the beginner, novice or even expert astronomer is Planets.  Using its built in compass, the planet app helps you identify which planets are visible.
