Resolutionary Featured

Today, Apple announced the much anticipated iPad 3 although its oddly called "The new iPad" and as Apple puts it...Its Resolutionary.

The biggest change to the new iPad is its camera and resolution which really places the already superior tablet further ahead of anything currently on the market.

Retina Display:

with four times more pixels then the iPad 2, the new iPad offers sharper text and colors and enriched detail.

Display:  Your HDTV is 1920 x 1080. The new iPad...2048 x 1536.  Keep in mind, this is a tablet.

iSight Camera:

The new iPad includes a 5 megapixel rear facing camera (the front camera being used for Facetime) for still photography and Video FD that shoots 1080p.

4G LTE Wireless

For "Cell" service connectivity the new iPad supports the extremely fast 4G LTE technology.  In addition to WiFi, it also supports GSM/UMTS, HSPA+, DC-HSDPA (3G).

The iPad also supports personal hotspots (carrier permitting).

Dictation:

A new key appears on the keyboard.  Press it and you will be able to speak to email, notes, text or search the web.  Also works with 3rd party apps.

Battery life & Weight

Remains the same (10 hours/9hours on 4G LTE).

Weight and physical size also the same.

Things that I think are missing:

I really would have liked to have seen some sort of illumination/flash for the rear camera.

Apple now is making iPhoto or basically the entire iLife suite for the iPad.  I think it would have been a great move to include this with the new iPad.

Name:  I guess the guy that creates names was off this week but in all honesty this is the prelude for something bigger (probably).

The new iPad goes on sale today (pre-order) and ships on March 16th.  The iPad two will continue to be available with a slight price drop to $399 for the 16GB Model.

Prices for the new ipad start at $499
